Code Intelligence
"Komodo's Code Intelligence system is a set of tools that makes browsing, searching, and programming complex code easier and more accessible. Use the Code Browser to view the hierarchical code structure within a program file or project. The Code Intelligence system includes support for Python, Perl, Tcl, PHP, Ruby, and JavaScript. Code Intelligence is comprised of the following tools:

Code Browser: A tab that displays a hierarchical view of all code constructs (for example, variables, methods, imports) in all open files. In the Code Browser, symbols can be sorted and filtered; the current scope of a symbol can be located. To access the Code Browser, click View|Tabs|Code Browser. The Code Browser is displayed on the Code tab beside the Projects tab.

AutoComplete and CallTips: The Code Intelligence system is used to drive autocomplete and calltip functionality for Perl, Python, Tcl, Ruby, JavaScript, XSLT, CSS, and XML (including HTML and DTD).

[from sordyl] Evaluating Text Extraction Algorithms
According to my evaluation setup and personal experience, the best open source solution currently available on the market is the boilerpipe library. If we treat precision with an equal amount of importance as recall (reflected in the F1 score) and take into account the performance consistency across both domains, then boilerpipe performs best. Performance aside, its codebase is seems to be quite stable and it works really fast.

AudioSlicer - Chop up your MP3 files the easy way
"AudioSlicer is a Cocoa GUI application for Mac OS X that finds all silences in an audio file and allows you to split it into several smaller audio files and to name/tag them properly. <br />
For now only MP3 is supported but other audio formats may be added in the future. <br />
While most other tools doing this split automatically according to certain criteria, AudioSlicer shows you all silences within a certain range of duration. You can then listen to the silence - well, to the audio before and after the silence really - and then you decide if you want to split there. <br />
The splitting is done without loss, there is no decoding and re-encoding of audio data taking place."

echo-nest-remix - Project Hosting on Google Code
The API for python swinger "the Internet Synthesizer that lets you make things with music and video. We've done the following: rearranged the syllables of a vocal line, walkenized and cowbellized hundreds of thousands of songs in a week, mixed up the hits of a drum beat and synced it to another loop, beat matched two songs, split apart DJ mixes by their individual tracks, made new kinds of video mashups, corrected sloppy drumming, synced a video to a song, transitioned between two covers of the same song, made a cat play piano, put a donk on it. We're making this available as an open source SDK for Python (other languages forthcoming!) that can be easily installed for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. It accesses the Echo Nest Analyze API at http://developer.echonest.com via the pyechonest wrapper and plays with the results to make new concoctions of audio and video. Unlike many other synchronization software, DirSync Pro is Open Source; it is 100% free of charge, 100% free of commercial text, 100% free of advertisements and 100% free of spyware. Beautiful Soup
"Beautiful Soup is a Python HTML/XML parser designed for quick turnaround projects like screen-scraping. Three features make it powerful: 1) won't choke if you give it bad markup. It yields a parse tree that makes approximately as much sense as your original document. This is usually good enough to collect the data you need and run away. 2) provides a few simple methods and Pythonic idioms for navigating, searching, and modifying a parse tree: a toolkit for dissecting a document and extracting what you need. You don't have to create a custom parser for each application. 3) automatically converts incoming documents to Unicode and outgoing documents to UTF-8. You don't have to think about encodings, unless the document doesn't specify an encoding and Beautiful Soup can't autodetect one. Then you just have to specify the original encoding."

Introducing SelectorGadget: point and click CSS selectors
"an open source bookmarklet that makes CSS selector generation and discovery on complicated sites a breeze. Just drag the bookmarklet to your bookmark bar, then go to any page and press it. A box will open in the bottom right of the website. Click on a page element that you would like your selector to match (it will turn green). SelectorGadget will then generate a minimal CSS selector for that element, and will highlight (yellow) everything that is matched by the selector. Now click on a highlighted element to remove it from the selector (red), or click on an unhighlighted element to add it to the selector. Through this process of selection and rejection, SelectorGadget helps you come up with the perfect CSS selector for your needs."

The Cathedral and the Bazaar
a classic. abstract: "I anatomize a successful open-source project, fetchmail, that was run as a deliberate test of the surprising theories about software engineering suggested by the history of Linux. I discuss these theories in terms of two fundamentally different development styles, the ``cathedral'' model of most of the commercial world versus the ``bazaar'' model of the Linux world. I show that these models derive from opposing assumptions about the nature of the software-debugging task. I then make a sustained argument from the Linux experience for the proposition that ``Given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow'', suggest productive analogies with other self-correcting systems of selfish agents, and conclude with some exploration of the implications of this insight for the future of software."
