Google Fusion Tables | Research Blog
"Today we're introducing Google Fusion Tables on Labs, an experimental system for data management in the cloud. It draws on the expertise of folks within Google Research who have been studying collaboration, data integration, and user requirements from a variety of domains. Fusion Tables is not a traditional database system focusing on complicated SQL queries and transaction processing. Instead, the focus is on fusing data management and collaboration: merging multiple data sources, discussion of the data, querying, visualization, and Web publishing. We plan to iteratively add new features to the systems as we get feedback from users."

PicasaStarter
This is a tiny application that gives a solution to a couple of shortcomings of Picasa, the image organisation and editing application by google:- The database with pictures can't be shared among different users (not on the same computer, not in a network).- You cannot choose where to put the database (eg. putting them on a network drive or NAS would be practical).- You can only use/have one database per user, choosing between multiple databases is not possible.

Why I like Redis
"Redis is typically categorised as yet another of those new-fangled NoSQL key/value stores, but if you look closer it actually has some pretty unique characteristics. It makes more sense to describe it as a “data structure server”—it provides a network service that exposes persistent storage and operations over dictionaries, lists, sets and string values. Think memcached but with list and set operations and persistence-to-disk. It’s also incredibly easy to set up, ridiculously fast (30,000 read or writes a second on my laptop with the default configuration) and has an interesting approach to persistence. Redis runs in memory, but syncs to disk every Y seconds or after every X operations. Sounds risky, but it supports replication out of the box so if you’re worried about losing data should a server fail you can always ensure you have a replicated copy to hand. I wouldn’t trust my only copy of critical data to it, but there are plenty of other cases for which it is really well suited."

Vacuum Firefox databases for better performance, now with no restart - Mozilla Links
"A few months ago, I posted how to improve Firefox performance by defragmenting its database files executing SQLite VACUUM command. The only con was that it required a Firefox restart to execute the command. Thanks to Mozilla’s Jeremy Orem, we have now learned it can be done from within Firefox in two short steps: Components.classes["@mozilla.org/browser/nav-history-service;1"].getService(Components.interfaces.nsPIPlacesDatabase).DBConnection.executeSimpleSQL("VACUUM"); "

Map Multiple Locations by Address
"Take any kind of street address list, for example copied from Excel, and geocode the addresses to get latitude and longitude coordinates using the tool below. The data can then be mapped in your browser, downloaded into Google Earth, saved to a web page, or transferred back into your spreadsheet. You can also use this tool to calculate distances to multiple addresses from a single point, or get quick driving directions to multiple destinations. Mapping multiple locations with your own custom data takes seconds, just follow the 6 steps below to plot your own data on a fully interactive multi-point map. It's fast, easy, and - free to use!"

Export Google Chrome Bookmarks • Google Chrome Board
* Download SQLite Manager Mozilla Firefox Plugin * Run SQLite Manager from within Firefox (Tools > SQLite Manager) * Click on Database, and then Connect Database * Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\History (Windows Vista: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\History) * Click View > Create View, name it bookmarks and enter SELECT * FROM urls WHERE starred_id >= 1 then click OK. * If you're running on the new Chromium build (or future builds of Google Chrome) use this query instead: SELECT * FROM starred * Click View > Export View and click OK, use the next dialog to save the file to wherever you would like.
