Why Did John Gruber's Talk Show Leave 5by5?
some speculation that it was to do with revenue split from the 5by5 app. I would certainly like to know.

Facebook's 'dark side': study finds link to socially aggressive narcissism
okay, this is sort of a weak article. In fact, I'm only linking to it because I can't get the phrase "socially aggressive narcissist" out of my head.

I’m not a “curator”
among other things, Marco Arment takes issue with "via" links. I used to not bother with them, but realized I do find it interesting where a given site found a link, so I try and provide them where possible. I think it's only interesting for obscure links, not for newspaper articles, and it's not always something you know / remember.

I found it really odd how he conflates source and via links in the Daring Fireball example, but then I read the page that prompted his post and see that it's done there too. Via = source, hat tip = via? Bullspit. The source link is the actual link, and "via" is how you got there. I got to Barrie via Highway 400. I got to this article about creative-commons licensed mashups via Boing Boing.

Don't Be A Free User
actually, one thing I really liked about Pinboard was that it cost a one-time fee, not a recurring charge. But I especially like that paying for stuff on the web makes it less likely to have ads.

Viral videos a slippery slope for late-night hosts
ratings are consistently down among late-night talk shows as people increasingly just watch choice bits online. Question is, would those bits still get play in the absence of the hour-long show?

Twitter Has a Plan to Make Money With Ads
the sad part of when a company starts 'monetizing' is that all the minds that had been working on making a thing great for users suddenly turn around and start thinking about how to make it less great for users.

Frictionless Publishing: It's Just Text, Except That It's Not
bad tumblelogs are not the fault of tumblr. Or: semi-literates do not produce good blogs. (One thing I hate about tumblr: the meaningless padding of "tublrUsr1991 liked this" x40 at the bottom of everything.)
