Iain Banks: My Favourite Game
my favourite sci-fi author talks about his favourite games, and Civ (one of my faves) figures heavily. Swoon!

Why Mass Effect is the Most Important Science Fiction Universe of Our Generation
well done, but I find this sort of argument unwinnable; I'd rather try to argue projected historical influence. If a sci-fi universe is important in the woods and no one hears it, is it still important? (<a href="http://penny-arcade.com/report/the-cut">via</a>)

That's the spirit. Probably not immune to blaster fire though. (Not that the real armour did much good either)

Daft Punk in some boring adidas World Cup Commercial forced mega meme
Interesting take on the Star Wars - Adidas - World Cup promo video (which is embedded for your convenience). Essentially Hipster Runoff is not feeling it because it's a corporate meme and not something grassroots. I can see that, but also: this is better than your typical ad. I like that Lucasfilm is allowing this sort of work. Not sure that 'celebrate originality' is a great tagline for a work of extremely parasitic pastiche, though. Emily Nussbaum on 'Lost'
"It was a hit series about the difficulties of finding an ending to a hit series. Cuselof had a deadline for years, which should have allowed them to pace out their puzzle’s solutions. Instead, we got cheesy temple vamping and a bereavement Holodeck. It became a show about placating, even sedating, fans, convincing them that, in the absence of anything coherent or challenging, love was enough." Quite a smart analysis, not as negative as that quote makes it sound.

apparently by one of the writers, although I'm not sure a Lost writer would misspell Lapidus. It's a decent if forgiving reading.

EW's Doc Jensen considers the Lewis Carroll references in Lost 606, "Lighthouse". Long and rambly but a fascinating example of the richness of allusion that's common in Lost.
