Angry Birds, Farmville and Other Hyperaddictive ‘Stupid Games’
great examination of the iOS generation of casual games. Misses the Wii / DS in its cursory history though. Be sure to play the minigame. (<a href="http://waxy.org">via</a>)

Chain World Videogame Was Supposed to be a Religion—Not a Holy War
"In Rohrer’s mind, his game would share many qualities with religion—a holy ark, a set of commandments, a sense of secrecy and mortality and mystical anticipation. This was the idea, anyway, before things started to get weird. Before Chain World, like religion itself, mutated out of control."

Are we really in a cultural golden age?
Interesting. With the exception of TV (undeniably, a great number of amazing shows have occurred over the last decade thanks to cable original production), I'd agree with the first point and less so the latter: that essentially we've always been in a golden age, but innovation in distribution has only now made the bulk of the work widely available.

Daft Punk in some boring adidas World Cup Commercial forced mega meme
Interesting take on the Star Wars - Adidas - World Cup promo video (which is embedded for your convenience). Essentially Hipster Runoff is not feeling it because it's a corporate meme and not something grassroots. I can see that, but also: this is better than your typical ad. I like that Lucasfilm is allowing this sort of work. Not sure that 'celebrate originality' is a great tagline for a work of extremely parasitic pastiche, though. Canada's Batman of the Balkans
This just came up at work and while I was sure I had posted it when it was first published, I couldn't find it in my bookmarks or on my site. It's about an unknown Canadian actor who's huge in Serbia for a show he did in the 90s called Tropical Heat. Great read.
