The Magic of America: Electronic Edition – Marion Mahony Griffin
"'The Magic of America,' a typescript of over 1,400 pages with approximately 650 accompanying illustrations, was written and compiled by Marion Mahony Griffin (1871-1961), architect, designer, delineator, and artist. In 1911 she married Walter Burley Griffin (1876-1937), architect, landscape designer, and city planner. Their architectural practice spanned almost four decades on three continents, and "The Magic of America" was meant, in part, to be a testament to their life and work together."

Chicago Examiner | Digital Collections | Chicago Public Library
The Chicago Examiner, a William Randolph Hearst publication, began in 1902 as a morning edition to complement the evening edition paper, the Chicago American. Introduced at the cost of one penny, the Examiner set off a circulation war with the Chicago Tribune. The Chicago Public Library’s ten-year run of the Examiner, while incomplete, extends from February of 1908 to April of 1918 and represents the longest run of the paper still available. The Examiner eventually merged with the Chicago Herald, which Hearst bought in 1918.
