Low-Cost OEM-Laser Diode Modules - Low Cost OEM Modules - Laser Components UK, Ltd.
With the LC LMD series LASER COMPONENTS introduces new low cost laser modules into the OEM market.
The absolutely smallest modules in the world contain the laser diode, drive electronics, and optics all in a metal housing. They can be operated directly with 3 VDC without additional electronics. The integrated APC (automatic power control) electronics allow the laser diode to be operated automatically in the working point with the desired output power, increasing the life expectancy of the module.

New Low-Noise APD Receivers

LASER COMPONENTS presents its new avalanche photodiodes receivers:  the H0 series. Supplied in a very compact, modified TO5 housing with a diameter of approximately 5 mm, the H0 series APD receivers can be integrated into small systems with which, for example, distances can be measured or the smallest light signals detected. The simplest way to use a detector is with an integrated receiver circuit. Here the quality is judged according to the amount of noise produced.

OT-7000 - 10 µm Measurement over 100 m! - Laser Components UK, Ltd.
OT-7000 - 10 µm Measurement over 100 m!
20.02.12

The principle of linear laser alignment is simple!  A stationary laser, aimed at a reference target 100 m away, creates a “line in space” that serves as a geometric reference line.  Place a reference position sensing detector (PSD) in the path of the beam and the lateral X-Y position can be measured with respect to the centre of the ‘tooling sphere’, i.e. the cylindrical datum of the PSD housing.

Place a transparent target between the laser and reference target PSD in the beam’s path then not only can the lateral X-Y positions of each PSD be measured, the angle between the laser beam axis and the axis of the two PSD tooling spheres can be determined.

The solution is On-Trak’s OT-7000 system, an auto-centering, wireless, multi-target alignment tool.  Using RF wireless signal communications to the RF Controller, X-Y data can be used to measure displacement and angular deviations in real time.

Maximising the Accuracy of Ruling Engines - Laser Components UK, Ltd.
Maximising the Accuracy of Ruling Engines
20.02.12

Optometrics Corporation has completed a two year project to upgrade the precision of two of its three ruling engines and the facilities in which they operate.  The engines are the source for highly precise original diffraction grating masters for Optometrics’ premier grating replication facility.  The ruling engines also produce original gratings for high power wavelength tunable or single line laser applications.

In addition to tripling the size of the previous production area for these operations, facility improvements include improved vibration isolation, and improved air quality and temperature control systems.

The Michigan Ruling Engine was originally designed and built at the University of Michigan in 1923. This machine originally operated with a strictly mechanical indexing system. This system limited the groove spacings to a handful of non-standard spacings, by today’s metric standards.  The addition of a long travel nano positioning stage system has improved the accuracy and flexibility of the original machine. Any groove spacing is now available for ruling.  The addition of an air bearing stage to replace the original mechanical slide for the diamond motion has greatly improved the straightness and quality of the grooves.

The Moore Ruling Engine was built in Connecticut in 1975.  This ruling engine is now equipped with a custom state of the art closed loop interferometric control system.  This positioning system has the ability to control the groove placement accuracy to within a few nanometers of absolute theoretical position, ensuring the highest ruling quality for both Visible and UV blazed gratings.  The custom software also permits variable line spacing (VLS) rulings, a capability previously unavailable.

These improvements represent a significant investment and demonstrate Optometrics’ commitment to continually improving the quality, capability, and capacity of the ruled grating product offerings.
