The Emulator Framework
21 days ago by david.parrott
EMF is a description language of computer hardware, plus the tools necessary to convert it into code. By describing a processor, for example, in a structured fashion means that the EMF software can automatically generate an emulator for that processor in any given programming language

Nanopond: A Very Tiny Artificial Life VM
july 2011 by david.parrott
Nanopond is a "corewar style" evolvable instruction set based virtual machine written in C. It is similar in design to Tierra and Avida but considerably smaller and simpler. Version 1.0 weighs in at only 840 lines of C code, the majority of which are comments! It is very highly optimized and supports simple color visualization using the SDL (Simple Directmedia Layer) library.

Libcpu
january 2011 by david.parrott
"libcpu" is an open source library that emulates several CPU architectures, allowing itself to be used as the CPU core for different kinds of emulator projects. It uses its own frontends for the different CPU types, and uses LLVM for the backend. libcpu is supposed to be able to do user mode and system emulation, and dynamic as well as static recompilation.

The Wireworld computer
may 2010 by david.parrott
These pages describe how we went about building a Wireworld computer. Although at least one design exists for a tape-based Turing machine implemented in the ‘Game of Life’, ours is, as far as we know, the first ever computer implemented as a cellular automaton that you might reasonably want to write a program for. The design was done by David Moore and Mark Owen, with the help of many others, between 1990 and 1992. It’s a testament to our modesty that it was not until September 2004 that we wrote up our work.

Welcome to the MESS Wiki!
april 2010 by david.parrott
Welcome to the official wiki for MESS (Multi Emulator Super System), the sister project of MAME1). MESS is an open source project which documents the hardware for a wide variety of (mostly vintage) computers, video game consoles, and calculators through software emulation, as MAME does for arcade games. As a nice side effect to this documentation, MESS allows software and games for these hardware platforms to be run on modern PCs.

.NET Terrarium 2.0
march 2010 by david.parrott
Welcome to the .NET Terrarium 2.0 project! Terrarium was created by members of the .NET Framework team in the .NET Framework 1.0 timeframe and was used initially as an internal test application. At conferences and via online chats, Terrarium provided a great way for developers to learn about the new .NET programming model and languages as they developed creatures and introduced them into a peer-to-peer ecosystem.

Detours - Microsoft Research
december 2009 by david.parrott
Detours is a library for instrumenting arbitrary Win32 functions on x86, x64, and IA64 machines. Detours intercepts Win32 functions by re-writing the in-memory code for target functions. The Detours package also contains utilities to attach arbitrary DLLs and data segments (called payloads) to any Win32 binary.

The purpose of this project is to provide a computer simulation of the onboard guidance computers used in the Apollo Program's lunar missions, and to generally allow you to learn about these guidance computers. Since this can be quite intimidating, we invite you to look at our "kinder and gentler" introductory page before immersing yourself in the full, gory detail presented by the bulk of the website.
