This is a glossry of terms and topics in JavaScript as covered in Codecademy courses. It does not attempt to completely define and explain terms, but rather to provide a general overview that is appropriate for someone new to the language.

Tinycon allows the addition of alert bubbles and changing the favicon image. Tinycon gracefully falls back to a number in title approach for browsers that don't support canvas or dynamic favicons.
Alerts in the favicon allow users to pin a tab and easily see if their attention is needed.

First things first - these demos are showing of CSS transitions, transforms (2D and 3D) and animations. Currently (January 2012), 2D transforms are available in all current browsers including IE9, transitions are available in all browsers except Internet Explorer 9 and less, while 3D transforms are in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and IE10 and up. Animations are available in Safari, Chrome, Firefox 5+ and IE10. Most examples degrade nicely, so if you are using a legacy browser you can still use a site using these, you just won't get animation. 3D transforms generally don't degrade nicely, so be careful when using them.

LESS extends CSS with dynamic behavior such as variables, mixins, operations and functions. LESS runs on both the client-side (IE 6+, Webkit, Firefox) and server-side, with Node.js and Rhino.

Google Maps do not display latitude and longitude values, but there is an easy trick to get these numbers. This technique will provide the latitude and longitude coordinates of the center of the map displayed by Google Maps.

JavaScript is a powerful tool for building rich interactions online.
