Updates to XStreet SL Listing Guidelines
august 2009 by cloudseer
Hi, I'm Pink Linden. I'm the Linden in charge of Second Life's marketplaces. Some of you have taken the time to greet me on the XStreet SL Forums. For those of you who haven't yet met me, here's a link to my introductory post where you can learn more about me and my role at Linden Lab.
As we said in our recent blog post on Our Content Management Roadmap, we're committed to clarifying and updating our policies. We want everyone in the Second Life community to have the best experience possible selling and shopping on Xstreet SL.
To that end, we've updated and restated our Listing Guidelines for Xstreet SL. Please take this opportunity to re-read the Listing Guidelines to ensure you understand and are abiding by our updated and clarified policies. As you do, please pay extra careful attention to the following integral components of this update:
Branding Guidelines
Our marketplace offers incredible opportunities for Second Life merchants to develop their own thriving brands and to work with real-world brand owners who've authorized use of their brands in Second Life. Brands are important to the shopping experience because they indicate to shoppers a level of quality and trust associated with the brand owner.
For the benefit of shoppers, brand owners, and the shopping experience as a whole, our Branding Guidelines help clarify permissible uses of brand names and branded items in listings. The goal of these guidelines is to provide clear guidance on listing practices that are not allowed because they can be misleading for shoppers and can lead to infringement of brand owners' intellectual property. Please review the Branding Guidelines for more information.
Policy Prohibiting Listings for Real-World Goods or Services
Our marketplace is only for digital content and services for use with Second Life. Our marketplace is not intended for, and we do not allow, listings for real-world goods or services. Our policy prohibiting such listings is for the benefit of the buyers and sellers of content and services for Second Life for whom our marketplace is designed.
Policy Prohibiting Keyword Spam
Based on overwhelming feedback from you, our customers, we've updated our guidelines to prohibit keyword spam to help shoppers find what they're looking for more quickly and easily. "Keyword spam" is the inclusion of words that have nothing to do with the item listed so that the listing will appear in search results. Keyword spam clutters the marketplace and makes buying and selling more difficult. For a better and more enjoyable shopping experience, we disallow keyword spam.
Changes To Your Listings and Content
Please familiarize yourself with the updated Xstreet SL Listing Guidelines. We are providing a grace period to allow you time to make any necessary changes to your listings and content before the updates to the Listing Guidelines go into effect.
If you have listings or content that do not comply, please modify or remove your listings and content, including content in Second Life associated with the listings, to bring them into compliance by no later than Monday, September 14, 2009. If you remove a featured listing to bring it into compliance on or before September 14, 2009, you will receive a pro-rated refund for the time remaining on the listing. After September 14, Linden Lab may remove listings and content that do not comply with the Xstreet SL Listing Guidelines, and no refunds will be issued for any removed listings.
If you have questions after reading this post, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions where we address some common inquiries and concerns.
For discussion of our updated Xstreet SL Listing Guidelines, please visit the discussion thread, in which we will be reviewing and responding to posts for the next few days.
Thanks, all, and here's to a successful marketplace and an improved shopping experience!
