The Vulcans thought that humans in space, unsupervised, would be too much for the galaxy to handle. And that was before Jim Kirk came along.

Jim's pretty sure he's got mutiny right now. He's got a lapful of mutiny.

Prompt: Starfleet!AU - Human!Erik thinks Charles is the worst Vulcan ever. In which Erik is distressed by a Vulcan shaking hands with him and then very blatantly inviting him to *cough* observe his nocturnal habits.

Traumatized by his experience on Tarsus IV, Jim Kirk runs away to Vulcan to undergo kolinahr.

Non-Starfleet AU. Jim owns a small bar in Chicago, keeps on picking up strays and taking care of everyone no matter how hard it makes his own life. Spock is a journalist writing feature articles for the Chicago Tribune; he depicts the world with uncanny skill, but hides more than one personal drama and is possibly under surveillance from the Vulcan royal family. They meet by accident just before their lives start to spin out of control.

He's not himself. Then, though his face doesn't move in the here and now, he feels himself give a low, soft chuckle. He hears it, and doesn't recognize the sound. Then the older Kirk claps his shoulder and squeezes it and says through the laughter, "Spock, you didn't really think I--"

If a Vulcan has an emotional reaction, and there’s no one around to see it, does it still have any significant impact?

Kirk was born in space, he sleeps best there. Lately, though, he has felt a new kind of restlessness in his bones. His sleep is interrupted by dreams, by reliving moments of a life that isn’t his.

"I have already made it clear that my desire is not to engage in this activity with Nyota, nor has it ever been. I was unaware that this was something she would require of me."

The word that has been haunting him lately, of which Vulcan has no approximation, is seduction. Intellectually, he knows what it means, in terms of a sexual relationship. It is an enticement, a tease, and he understands it. Intellectually.

There was something devastatingly cute about the mix of wide brown eyes, pale skin, pointed ears, and neat hair cut when packaged in a body barely over three feet tall and swimming in a blue science uniform top and dark undershirt that was entirely too big for his body.

Jim was using him. Perhaps it was that he was so used to seeing the physical effects of blatant cruelty that it hurt as much as it did when his rose-colored glasses were ripped suddenly away.

Two years later, the pon farr finally catches up with them.

Kirk needs to get married for political reasons. Spock offers himself as the logical choice.

When Spock applies to leave Vulcan for Starfleet, he is twenty-eight, which makes him a well-grown adult in human terms, but still a teenager by Vulcan standards.

Jim took the silence as an opportunity to scrutinize his potential new friend, deciding with glee that his eyebrows were about as unfortunate as the severity of his bangs. In the absence of a response from the other, he was getting restless, head tilting as he fidgeted and bit his lip and shuffled his feet in the dirt, as he tried to deal with what seemed to his childish perception to be an awkward moment. He wasn't a shy child, but he sure as hell knew how and when to be a polite and charming one.

The captain cannot know about touch telepathy—he has encountered it, but it is likely that he assumes that the psi points are the only way of telegraphing; it is likely that it was an errant fantasy. Though it was… fascinating. And rather stimulating.

Wherein Spock and Kirk, now married, meet up with Spock Prime once more, and Kirk considers the nature of his relationship with his first officer.

Detective Spock, born on Vulcan and resident of San Francisco, is assigned to the Midwest police bureau. I think everyone can guess what happens next.

"Damnit, Spock, we're your friends, not some human laboratory specimens!"

It’s not every day you catch a Vulcan jerking himself off.

"Well, I don't want to intrude or anything but -- I've been kidnapped. Nothing major yet, just some light torture, the usual."

"We're talking about sex, Spock. You calling me captain now takes it to a whole new level of kinky."

He was the Senior Medical officer on the Starfleet Flagship and that was true, but he was also a maudlin old man who was drinking the most expensive brandy he could afford with the same grace as the boys back home would swill backwoods moonshine. And he was drinking it alone.

The first time Spock woke up with the captain in his bed, it was because of the very strangeness. There was some sort of cool, clinging blanket wrapped around him. There was also a smaller point of heat pressing against his shoulder blades, but that he easily identified as Tribble, Ship's-Cat 3rd Class (Under Fifty Pests Exterminated). He and the ship's-cats did not, exactly, get along, but they frequented his quarters because of the higher heat, and often curled up around him when he was in the rec areas. He did not find it unacceptable to share his bed with them or allow them to sit near him. He was always slightly cold, and the creatures were a welcome source of radiated heat. The other presence, however, was unexpected.

He is four years old. His father is dead, his father’s people glad to be rid of the traitor. He has only his mother and his mind, and both seem liable to break.

Uhura realizes that she and Spock share an attraction.

The Federation and the Romulan Empire have been on the verge of war for what sometimes feels like forever; this is the place where what passes for peace might end.

“Oh, no, this test isn’t for you. The wager is for you. The test is for your young counterparts...do you believe in fate?"

Jim’s first thought upon waking is that everything has gone completely, mysteriously, and catastrophically pink.

The Enterprise is ordered to pick up a Vulcan Healer and transport him to the new colony. Once there they are scheduled to remain and assist with the early stages of setting up the colony. Kirk's liaison is his 'old friend' Ambassador Spock, now known as Elder Sepak, who takes the opportunity to help Kirk and Spock become better acquainted.

"T'Pring. I know that the bond makes you desire further closeness, but do not confuse loss of self with being close. You are T'Pring, he is Spock, and the two are joined, but not the same."

Seven months into their five year stint aboard the Enterprise, Jim's meld with Ambassador Spock comes back to bite him in the ass.

Sarek does not always understand his son, but that does not mean he does not love him.

If Amanda had to pick a word to describe Sarek, it would be "genuine," or maybe "surprising."

Spock accompanies his parents to an Earth resort where Jim Kirk is a dancer. 'Dirty Dancing' redux.

He's been a good Captain. It isn't his own ego talking, although it does tend to echo across the galaxy on a good day. He's seen the peer reviews his crew sent in, seen the overwhelming praise that's been sent to Starfleet on his behalf. And yet here he is on his mostly deserted ship filling out paperwork to send them scattered across the universe because not one of them wishes to remain with him.

Jim awoke to the realization that he couldn't hear his own breath.

Spock, who has just experienced intense emotional compromise, has no desire to do so again. And so, while Kirk assumes the captaincy, he goes to his quarters and meditates. He finds the place within his mind where he built the mental shields that separated him from T’Pring. Behind those telepathic walls lie the remains of his bond. As he examines the shields for damage, he is aware that something is behind them. It flutters faintly, like a baby bird genre:fluffing its tiny wings. It does not feel like death – it feels, strangely, like birth. But Spock will not risk exposing himself to a broken mind link. Down that path lies madness. He doubles the barriers, reinforces his defenses between the shattered bond and his mind, and the awareness disappears.

After the bar fight, Nyota thinks to herself that if this is what being hit on by Jim Kirk leads to, she’s very glad she’s never going to have to see him again.

"Commander Spock, we have located your son," the Vulcan lady on the screen says, which would be great, except Jim can tell by the look on Spock’s face that he’s never heard of this kid before in his life. "If it is expedient, the child will be sent to join you on the Enterprise within the week."

Jim wants to ride that (and by "that" he means "Spock's dick") into the sunset.

Transitioning from "hating each other's guts" to "friends" to something more takes a lot of work, on both their parts, but it isn't until after they start spending the bulk of their free time together that Jim actually bridges the gap between the theoretical knowledge that Spock is a humanoid alien and truly understanding it.

"James T Kirk," Jim says, and sticks his hands in his pockets because Vulcans don't shake hands, and he's pretty sure his fingers don't bend that way.

Shore leave happens to coincide with Christmas. Jim convinces Spock to join him for some traditional Terran festivities, and learns an unexpected lesson in Vulcan customs.
