He'd been living like this long enough to know what being scared felt like, and yet this wasn't like any of that. Rodney hadn't wanted to know so that he could hurt John or laugh at him or pigeon hole him as the bratty rich boy. He'd wanted to know John, and John knew that if he could keep from running, he might finally be free.

Brad and his emotions have an understanding: he doesn't talk about, or think about, anything that might affect his combat effectiveness, and his emotions do whatever the fuck he tells them to.

“John Sheppard had a son? And he plays the violin too? What is he, a masochist?”

“Seriously. All that Twenty Ways to Please Your Man stuff? I mean, a) all the actual women of our acquaintance,” he nods at Natasha, “will tell you that’s it’s sexist bullshit, feeding the male hegemony, denying the importance of female pleasure and seriously, get Pepper even halfway drunk and ask her about this because she has a lecture prepared, I swear to God. Anyway b) sex is not that complicated.”

Things proceed a little different than planned for the Expedition when they find the city of the Ancients already somewhat occupied. By mermaids. Rodney especially doesn't expect one of those mermaids (mermen?) to fixate on him of all people.

In John’s head, the following sentence runs something like: 'My ex-wife said that among other flaws, I have the emotional maturity of cake, which is the only thing I will ever be able to hold a meaningful relationship with. But I guess if you’re also doomed to be alone, maybe we’ll be able to sort something out?'

In actuality, he says, “You see, I’m. I’m kinda like cake in – in some way, so, uh. Maybe I’ll keep you company?”

John is a photographer, Rodney is a chef and food stylist.

Brad's known Nate was going to leave them –- him -- since the first time Brad climbed out of the BRC practice pool at Oceanside, unzipped his wetsuit and saw his fresh-faced lieutenant standing off to the side, watching them all and smiling as though he had a secret that Brad would spend a war and a lifetime trying to find.

But the war is over, at least for Nate, and a lifetime is shorter than you'd think.

Eames, however, is quite determined to get Arthur to open up and stop being so uptight and prickly by any means necessary. While each hones his skill in the culinary arts (and Arthur desperately tries to convince Ariadne that the desired structural integrity of her cakes violates basic laws of physics), they increasingly find themselves drawn together, inside the classroom and out. Given such close quarters in the kitchen, and the amount of sensory stimulation involved with preparing all manner of food, it starts to become difficult for Arthur to retain his customary level of distance and detachment. And, as Arthur will find, when it comes to unsatisfied appetites, hunger is often the best sauce of all.

Where it was Nick Fury's idea, but he didn't mean it like that.
