She wouldn’t quite say it’s love, but they’re two young people mutually attracted to each other, and as much as Spock’s Vulcan side hates to admit any human weakness like lust, it’s only logical to Nyota that they’d be touching and feeling, testing each other and their boundaries, as much as possible, in rare moments alone even more so.

Uhura wasn't ready to give up, not by a long shot, but in the end the only destiny she could control was her own.

Her first date with McCoy is a good one: coffee and a museum in San Francisco. She enjoys it, likes talking to him. His humor is honest, but he's never cruel. He’s intelligent. He’s not bad looking. He makes her laugh. He talks about Jim Kirk more than she'd maybe like him to, but maybe that’s what she’s looking for. It’s only been a few weeks, and she still can’t look Kirk in the eye. Might never be able to again.

You get two alpha types together, and there are going to be fireworks. There always have been, even back when they hated each other. Jim likes fireworks, and these are better than most.

Uhura hates James T. Kirk because he never seems to do what is expected. Things get messy when Jim makes Spock do unexpected things in return.

"I mean, obviously I can get one in your size, and the computer’s designed to handle lots of different species, so your torso shape won’t be an issue, either. There’s a couple of slight style variations, depending on the physical attributes of the crewman—you want to look through and take your pick?"

Uhura realizes that she and Spock share an attraction.

Should he tell Chekov that Kirk and Spock were living together? Chekov could keep his mouth shut, but -- no, this was one of those things that was too good to keep to himself and too fucking insane to tell anyone, even his best friend. If Chekov found out on his own, then they'd scream about it and never tell anyone; yet if Spock was being moved into Kirk's room in the middle of the night, the chances of their going public any time soon were fucking slim, if existent at all.

After the bar fight, Nyota thinks to herself that if this is what being hit on by Jim Kirk leads to, she’s very glad she’s never going to have to see him again.

After Nero, Uhura goes home. Spock and Gaila do, too.

"I'm studying xenolinguistics and she's studying computer science," Uhura snaps, the eighth time some cadet leans in close across a table in the library to ask what it was like, being an Orion slave girl. "The comparative anthropology section is over there."
