US has 5% of world's population but 25% of the world's prisoners. US has 1% percent of its population in prison, the highest percentage of any country in the world. No products made by prisoners are allowed to be imported into the US, and yet prisoner labor constitutes a significant fraction of the US workforce. ~10% of aa males 20-24 are in jail.
