Even the Tech Journalists Know What It Is To Be A Tool
It doesn't take guts to sit around puling and crying because the way you are spoon fed your stories doesn't always agree with your achey tummy. It takes guts to stand up and dig in and find the stories that need to be dragged out into the light, and the skill and savvy to do that with a smile and a wink, so you can keep getting the interviews you need to do your job.

News Desk: Apple’s New Headquarters : The New Yorker
"When companies plan wildly ambitious, over-the-top headquarters, it is sometimes a sign of imperial hubris. A.T. & T. was broken up not too long after it moved into Johnson and Burgee’s famously grandiose “Chippendale skyscraper” on Madison Avenue. General Foods did not last too long after taking occupancy of the glass-and-metal palace Kevin Roche designed for it in Westchester County, and Union Carbide fell apart after it moved into another Roche building in Danbury, Connecticut. The New York Times Company’s stock price plummeted after it moved into its Renzo Piano building on Eighth Avenue, and they now lease the home they built for themselves."

inessential.com: Torn Paper Derangement Syndrome (TPDS)
I don’t mind real-world UI, textures, trompe-l'œil — as long as it doesn’t trigger the part of me that feels like it has to reach in and fix things.

I don’t want to have to go wash my hands, blow off the eraser crumbs, wind up the tape measure, tear off the bits of paper.

If this rumored new UI for iCal is real and not just a mockup by a misanthropic Photoshop sadist, then I’m going to be distracted forever by the bits of torn paper under the toolbar.
