Forkbombr Guest Post: Markdown is the new Word 5.1
I agree with this wholeheartedly, except that I use pandoc to convert my Markdown - it's more flexible and can do sophisticated things like citations and tables effortlessly. The only sticking point is having to convert it to Word to share it with colleagues.

TrackChanges - Collaborative editing in LaTeX
"TrackChanges is a package for collaboratively editing LaTeX documents. It allows multiple editors to make changes and add annotations to a document. These changes and notes will be color coded by editor and added to the compiled document. The TrackChanges GUI allows the author to quickly find and accept, reject or modify the suggested edits."

Academic writing extensions to Markdown
A ruby gem utility which adds various academic manuscript related syntax features to Markdown, and helps to pre-process files for later conversion with something like Pandoc. Looks interesting.

Digital_Academic_Workflow
An interesting workflow for collecting references, making notes and assembling a paper, on a Mac. I've just upgraded to DEVONthink 2, and am loving it. Now I'm tempted by Sente too.

Cognitive Daily: How NOT to write a science book
"3. Don't worry about scientific accuracy when employing metaphors. If you're writing a book about physics, it doesn't matter if you get your biology right. After all, it's just a metaphor! What better way to demonstrate the theory of relativity than to compare it to how humans evolved from beluga whales?"

Cognitive Daily: How to report scientific research to a general audience
Some good tips here that I might pass on to my students. I don't agree with removing error bars though, even for a non-scientific audience. For one thing, scientists read those articles too, and we need our error bars, dammit!
