Academic writing extensions to Markdown
A ruby gem utility which adds various academic manuscript related syntax features to Markdown, and helps to pre-process files for later conversion with something like Pandoc. Looks interesting.

Aptonic Software - Dropzone
Very interesting app which provides custom 'Destinations' to perform handy tasks. It's nothing you couldn't do with an Applescript, but it's very slick and easy to use. Even better, it has a brilliant API with which you can create Destinations in Ruby. It's simple, but really powerful.

rush
This looks like a really interesting project: a pure Ruby shell. I don't write Unix shell scripts often enough to remember the syntax clearly, so a Ruby shell would simplify things a lot.

Overriding the Dispatcher to Give User-Friendly Database Errors
"So here’s what you do: create a “Pre-Dispatcher” that intercepts the CGI requests before the Rails dispatcher gets to do its job. If everything’s OK, pass the request on and all is well. But if there’s a problem, then render a pre-defined controller and view."
