Taking ownership of system files or folders in Windows 7 or Vista is not a simple task. Whether you use the GUI or the command line, it takes far too many steps.

Thankfully somebody created a registry hack that will give you a menu item for “Take Ownership” that will handle all the steps for you.  (If you are the person that originally made this script, let me know and I’ll give you credit)

Here’s what the new right-click menu will look like after installing this registry hack.

Technical background
Windows NT (Windows XP, Vista, 2000 and 2003 ARE Windows NT) uses a filesystem called NTFS. It allows creating junctions. A Junction is a folder which is displayed on let's say C:Source but it's content is in fact at D:Destination. So the space is used on D: which allows you to have more data on C: than actially possible. And that's exactly what you may want.

During the installation of Steam, you have the option to install Steam to a location other than the default. Since Steam relies on the game files residing in the SteamApps folder, your game files cannot be moved outside of this folder. The game files must be in the SteamApps folder in order to function.
If Steam is already installed, you may move the installation to another location, such as a different hard drive using the following process.

Drawn to the region by a stable of anchor tenants like Amazon.com, Expedia and Microsoft and enticed by top-notch computer scientists from the University of Washington, companies such as eBay, Facebook and, most recently, Groupon have decided to mine Seattle’s treasure trove of technical talent.
The emergence of these companies is altering the technology landscape as we know it. For the most part, they’ve been warmly greeted, hosting fancy shin-digs at their offices in an effort to woo the best designers, developers and engineers.

Six out of 10 startup execs believe things are better than a year ago, and nearly two thirds of the companies reported revenue expectations that either met or exceeded targets. Meanwhile, 72 percent of those surveyed said that business conditions will continue to improve in 2012, a key election year in the U.S. as the candidates debate economic issues.

“The median amount among the consumers who spend money on apps is much lower than the average, just $7.50 per month,” admits ABI senior analyst Aapo Markkanen. “This reflects the disproportionate role of big spenders as a revenue source. The highest-spending 3% of all app users account for nearly 20% of the total spend, while over 70% spends either nothing or very little.”
The numbers also reflect certain trends in different app categories. Thus far, the releases that have best succeeded in making money have typically been utility apps often used for business purposes, or iOS games monetized through strings of in-app purchases. In both cases the money comes from a remarkably small base of customers.

Free press is a game changer, and fortunately the social media revolution has really made connecting with journalists a whole lot easier than it was in the past. There are so many tools and tips out there and ways to connect with them. Influential bloggers are even right at your fingertips.
So, let me show you some ways I’ve used these new rules to get press for my businesses and my clients.

The most consistent performer over the period we assessed is the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, Wash., metro area, which takes first place on our list. Its 12% tech job growth over the past two years and 7.6% STEM growth beat the Valley’s numbers. More important for potential job-seekers, the Puget Sound regions has grown consistently in good times and bad, boasting a remarkable 43% increase in tech employment over the decade and an 18% expansion in STEM jobs. Seattle withstood both recessions of the past decade better than most regions, particularly the Valley. The presence of such solid tech-oriented companies as Microsoft, Amazon and Boeing — and lower housing costs than the Bay Area — may have much to do with this.

21% of Americans have read an e-book. The increasing availability of e-content is prompting some to read more than in the past and to prefer buying books to borrowing them.

I’ve gotten quite a few questions about getting audio from Animoog into Hokusai, so I’m going to provide that tutorial here.  It’s worth noting that some apps will allow you to edit your recording directly within the app; for example, NanoStudio will let you edit your recording before throwing it into a set of TRG-16 performance pads.  That’s not an option available in every app though, so editing your music within Hokusai and then exporting it to your DAW is a good solution.

Depressed internet users browse the web more randomly, switching between several applications, new research on university students suggests.

"The software would be a cost-effective and an in-home tool that could proactively prompt users to seek medical help if their Internet usage patterns indicate possible depression," Chellappan said. "The software could also be installed on campus networks to notify counselors of students whose Internet usage patterns are indicative of depressive behavior."

“Roughly a year ago when we summarized the state of smartphones at the Appnation conference,” reads the Nielsen Blog, “less than 40 percent of mobile subscribers in the U.S. had smartphones. Today, one in two mobile subscribers has a smartphone and that figure is moving steadily upwards.”

This post shows the downloads required to hit the top 25 per category. We chose the top 25 because the first 25 applications are shown immediately when a user fires up the app store on their mobile. All data is based on daily download figures in the Apple App Store for iPhone in the United States in April 2012.

Facebook has been making a lot of promises during a tour to drum up interest in its ever-nearing IPO, but the one gadget-heads have been wanting to hear the most, a commitment to its mobile apps, has been elusive -- until now. Everyone's favorite hooded CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, is telling investors in his home 'burg of the San Francisco Bay that mobile is front and center in his company's plans. We're hoping that means new app features, although Zuck is likely referring to money-making as well: shareholders are jittery knowing that Facebook makes most of its money on web ads that it's not running on smartphones and tablets. Paid titles in App Center will go a long way towards scratching that itch, mind you. As for us, we'll just be happy if Facebook takes less than a year and a half to produce a major tablet app.

If a treehouse is designed poorly it is easy to cause damage to the tree, but by following some simple guidelines you can minimise damage as much as possible. It is impossible to cause no damage at all, but trees have evolved several techniques to tolerate damage and remain healthy. As trees are living organisms, they differ from familiar building materials in the following four ways.

They can be infected by bacteria and viruses, causing loss of branches or death to the whole tree

In this video I go over two good video editing programs for Windows including the free option Windows Live Movie Maker as well as a good paid option Corel VideoStudio Pro X3. If you just need something simple to do a few cuts and add some music then Movie Maker will work just fine. On the other hand if you need something more in depth I recommend VideoStudio as it should be able to handle most any video editing you need unless you have a specific need for a program such as Sony Vegas or Adobe After Effects.

Editing AVI files is easily done through VirtualDub but for .wmv, .flv, .rm and .mpg files the tools are less easily available. Some very good command line tools are available for editing these files viz.

AsfBin - Very, very well done editor for Windows media files
MpgTx - A tool being developed largely for POSIX apps. Tiny.
flvtool - A tool meant largely for metadata management.
Not all these programs are open source programs. Only MpgTx and flvtool are open-source tools.

Avidemux is a free video editor designed for simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks. It supports many file types, including AVI, DVD compatible MPEG files, MP4 and ASF, using a variety of codecs. Tasks can be automated using projects, job queue and powerful scripting capabilities.
Avidemux is available for Linux, BSD, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows under the GNU GPL license. The program was written from scratch by Mean, but code from other people and projects has been used as well. Patches, translations and even bug reports are always welcome.
