Update Twitter with a HTTP Post | Machine Tweets
october 2010 by blech
Looks like a useful service if you want to shortcut authentication (although Twitter already make it fairly easily by having a page that shows you an auth token for your account only). I wonder how well (or indeed if) it reports errors usefully, but even so, worth a go, perhaps.

"Welcome to Google Apps Script: an easy way to automate simple tasks across Google Products." "use standard JavaScript; use Google's online Web Script Editor or your favorite Desktop development tool; Execution and hosting of scripts on the Google cloud" Interesting. (Confusing naming, perhaps?)

Warcraft guild achievements as RSS | jerakeen.org
february 2009 by blech
Tom Insam writes up, in amusing fashion, how he scrapes the World of Warcraft site to extract the achievements of his guild into an RSS feed. For example: "they return an XML document with an XSL stylesheet referenced in the header that transforms the XML into a web page. Why are they doing this? It must be a huge amount of work compared to just serving HTML, I don’t get it. Let’s ignore that."

Gruber is sceptical about Ubiquity: "Quicksilver (or Enso) but only for the web", "The more ambitious examples (which don’t work yet), make me think it’s trying to do what AppleScript tried but failed to do. "

Run Python Script | toxicsoftware.com
april 2008 by blech
An Automator action to allow you to run a Python script. Worth a look at some point, although I tend to just use AppleScript or another OSA method rather than Automator, which has a nasty habit of getting in my way.

If Apple was serious about JavaScript, wouldn't there be an implementation of Scripting Bridge? (with apologies to Tom, who mentioned the idea on #2lmc) (and I really should check out Drosera)

MacDevCenter.com -- Replacing AppleScript with Ruby
february 2007 by blech
Good article by Matt Neuberg, noting that OSA is still important but that Ruby's probably a better fit for scripting these days. Make sure you don't throw out the first item of type baby with the first item of water of container bath.
