The New Aesthetic and I | Damien G. Walter
"Images are made in Photoshop and Illustrator. Video is edited in Final Cut Pro. Buildings are rendered in Autodesk. Books are written in Scrivener. And so on. To paraphrase McLuhan “the hardware / software is the message” because while you can imitate as many different styles as you like in your digital arena of choice, ultimately they all end up interrelated by the architecture of the technology itself."

I'm currently battling with iMovie to process some videos, and it's not fun. This non-free (but reasonably cheap) app looks promising, although I haven't tried it yet. In particular, it sets "date taken" on Flickr when it uploads a video; unlike photos, there's not a metadata standard for videos with the ubiquity of EXIF, so using the file's metadata is definitely a Good Thing.

How to get BBC iPlayer on the Mac working | James Cridland
Or, rather, "how to officially download low quality MP4 files with DRM". Why bother when you can stream better quality versions and not have to faff about with an Adobe Air app, which (as one commenter notes) isn't even particularly Macish?

MDIs on the Mac (Updated) | ignore the code
It's nice to know other people share my bugbears, even after all this time of Windows incomers diluting the Mac-ishness of the UI. I wish he'd expanded his point about Safari (which I still use without tabs on the Mac, damnit).

Looks a lot like they're playing TextMate catchup, frankly. Code folding, and renaming the glossary to clippings, for example. Plus it's a $30 upgrade (if you didn't buy BBEdit 8.2 this year). Could be a hard sell.
