The price compares unfavourably with the Advent 4211 (10" screen, bigger (if mechanical) HD, £20 cheaper) but it's a big name, so it might do well. (For the record: 20% or so markup on the equivalent US model, after tax.) Linked indirectly to avoid horrific Dell shop URLs.

Ian Betteridge looks at the MSI Wind and its the people running Mac OS X on it and asks if Apple would ever make something similar. I suspect that he's right about the pricing if they did, but that they're more likely to stick with the MacBook Air as their "ultraportable" and that if they do make something that aims at that sector, it'll be a bigger iPhone OS based tablet.

The 9" version of the Eee has a better horizontal resolution (good for those sites that insist on a fixed 960px or so width (hi Apple, BBC.... damn near everyone)) and more SSD storage, but still has poor battery life. Also, explicit XP/storage tradeoff.

One of these things is not like the other. It's the one that "had users file a bug on me to make Thunderbird’s new account dialog smaller, so they can get to the buttons."

This isn't something candace bothers with (files are on one or the other, and if they need to move, she uses USB sticks) but ExpanDrive sounds interesting and other people do like proper sync solutions.

I haven't tried this, but I doubt the GIMP is the right solution. What the Eee really needs is a small-screen-specific preview app with very light editing (contrast, crop) and upload. Unfortunately I don't care enough to write it.

"it doesn’t remember Wi-Fi passwords after shut-down (though it does retain them while in sleep mode)" actually, candace finds the opposite: if the router hiccups sleeping lets it reconnect, otherwise it asks.

Yet another "I'm mobile and I've found the Eee really useful" review. The more of these I read the more I reckon the mooted MacBook thin/nano is going to be a tough sell, especially if it's over $800 (and how can it not be?)

There's really beginning to be a consensus here: the Eee (and machines in its class; there'll be more soon) won't replace the laptop-as-desktop but are very useful if you're really mobile.

From the "how many USB devices can you cram inside an Eee" department. Tricked out with extra storage (thumbdrive & sd), GPS, Bluetooth and 802.11n. Insanity.

Formal statement saying that the "warranty void if seal broken" sticker is in fact lying, perhaps because both US and EU legislation makes such a claim legally dubious. Good news if you want to bump memory or put in PCI-e cards.

A short review/narrative about candace's first week with her Eee. "Either I will be online 24/7 non-stop and never get anything done, or I will be able to get work done whenever, whereever, on my terms, and with little hassle."

Ars Technica review the cheap, portable, Linux-based Eee and seem to like it. It's a bit hard to tell, though, because they didn't put in a score.
