Redefining the Camera
"My iPhone can tell me where I am, tell me where the sun is and the moon will be, put watermarks on my images, stitch panos, apply tilt-and-shift-like effect, email them or send them directly to places I want them, and much, much more. My US$7999 D3x can't do any of those things. Doesn't anyone else find something wrong with this picture?" The whole thing piece (collection, really) is long, but well worth reading if you're interested in cameras, customisation, and computing.

levelHead v1.0, 3 cube speed-run | Vimeo
I'm not convinced that the gameplay's up to much, but technically this is pretty damned impressive stuff. Each cube has different faces, and the computer recognises them and places the game environment inside. Just watch the video; you'll get the idea quickly enough.

10 Things I Learned from Mental Detox Week | iain tait
Good stuff in here. In particular, another aspect of computing I'd ignored- TV makes you tired but not sleepy, and so does computing. Books, on the other hand, let you recognise sleepiness.

Dell aims to reclaim global lead | BBC News
"Michael Dell has said his firm can regain its spot as the world's number one PC maker by switching its focus to consumers" Er, right. Good luck with that. Interesting behind the scenes sidebar blog post from Rory Cellan-Jones too.

storage | forre.st
A live chart showing for the price (in dollars) per gigabyte of storage on commodity (SATA) drives. Handy, since drawing those yourself can be a right pain. A UK version would be nice though.

Apple Introduces New Mac Pro | Apple
I visited the Apple PR site on a whim, expecting nothing new since Christmas. Instead, it turns out they've just moved to the 45nm Xeons that Siracusa was waiting for. That changes his WWDC bingo a bit. New Xserve too.

Technophile - Asus Eee PC | The Guardian
"The Asus Eee PC has brought computing within reach of most pockets, and for the price, we can't complain" Schofield likes it too, more or less.

Eeextremely Eeenticing: a review of the Asus Eee PC
Ars Technica review the cheap, portable, Linux-based Eee and seem to like it. It's a bit hard to tell, though, because they didn't put in a score.

Who Can Name the Bigger Number?
"I’ve met people who don’t know the difference between a million and a billion, and don’t care. We play a lottery with ‘six ways to win!,’ overlooking the twenty million ways to lose." Lots of interesting stuff in here.

"I wouldn't put a person within 15 years of a computer unless I was absolutely sure it was a kind of bike for them"
