Located on Long Island, New York, its construction was completed and used by the US Army during World War II as Mason General Hospital. After the war, it was given back to the state. Vandalized in the 70s and 80s, it was finally demolished in 1989.

In 1878 the State Lunatic Hospital at Danvers, Massachusetts was erected, under the supervision of prominent Boston architect Nathaniel J Bradlee, in rural location north of Boston, and closed on 24 June 1992 due to budget cuts within the mental health system. (Used as the setting for the 2001 horror film Session 9)
