Occupy Your Brain
october 2011 by adamcrowe
'All too often, humans have sought shortcuts in the path to a free world. They have done what emotionally and intuitively “felt” right without performing the necessary critical analysis required to truly “know” that it is right. It is only when we can configure our emotional wants and rewards to be in line with analytically sound mental constructs of causality that we will both be feeling like we are making a difference while at the same time actually be making one. These two outcomes, the perception of progress and actual progress, must never be confused; we can however work to make them congruent. A free world is being built today already by those who have understanding of its nature. It is not occurring through the passing of new laws, taxes, or treaties, the election of new local or global leaders, attacks upon perceived enemies and enslavers, or the occupations of public places and protests for a shift in power. It is being built through education of the intellectually curious, daily self-improvements, voluntary commerce, and the kindness we elect to bestow upon those who respond in kind.'

ABC News -- Muslim Dating Site Madawi Seeds Libyan Revolution (Feb. 24, 2011)
march 2011 by adamcrowe
'To avoid detection by Libyan secret police, who monitor Facebook and Twitter, Mahmoudi, the leader of the Ekhtalef ("Difference") Movement, used what's considered the Match.com of the Middle East to send coded love letters to rally the revolution. On the site, the revolutionaries used poetry laced with revolutionary references to gauge support and make initial contact. Then they had detailed follow-up conversations via text message and Yahoo Messenger. They also communicated in code the number of their comrades supporting the revolution. The five Ls in the phrase "I LLLLLove you," for example, meant they had five people with them. Mahmoudi figured 50,000 supporters would be enough to take to the streets. But using various aliases on the dating site, he said he ended up with 171,323 "admirers" by the time Libya's Internet crashed last Saturday.'

january 2011 by adamcrowe
'Rule #0: Rules #1 and #2 of the internet still apply. Your memes are not, at this juncture, something that the real world can appreciate. Although meme speak between fellow Anonymous is acceptable, focus on the target and keep it to a minimum. Rule #8: No violence. Rule #9: No weapons. The demonstration is a peaceful event. Your weapons. You will not need them. Rule #22: Document the demonstration. Videos and pictures of the event may be used to corroborate your side of the story if law enforcement get involved. Furthermore, posting images and videos of your heroic actions all over the internet is bound to generate win, exhorting other Anonymous to follow your glorious example.'

'Greetings. Unemployed and students, wage slaves and Farmers, priests and rock stars. Mothers and fathers, sons and daughters. Anonymous brothers and sisters of earth. This is an anonymous message to the people of the world. More and more of us are poor and starving. More and more of us are being killed and imprisoned. More and more of us are being censored and monitored. More and more of our rights, hopes and dreams are quickly being stripped away. The world of today is a dark place. The many live under the rule of the few. This is true all around the world. This shit, has got to go. The time has come for you to pick up your personal responsibility. The time has come for each one of us to speak the word of truth. This year anonymous invites all human beings to create something and present it to the world. P2P Foundation -- The role of the internet and netroots in recent UK social movements...
january 2011 by adamcrowe
'From Laurie Penny: "These young people are sick of leaders, even leaders our own age. They won’t be told what to do, but that sentiment is more of a honed manifesto than a collective teenage door-slamming strop. When the meeting is over and consensus reached, the collective slams back into action, planning an escalation in the protests leading up to the crucial vote on tuition fees later this month. These protesters have a honed protestant work ethic, a coherent ideological framework, stunning technological facility and absolutely nothing to lose. No wonder the administration is getting worried.“ -- And here from Phil: "Twitter is as capitalist as McDonalds. Facebook is fundamentally the same beast as Microsoft. Your internet connection is owned by a private company. Private ownership of the means of social media allows the ruling class to assert their monopoly over communication if needs be.”' -- Haha! "The means..." -- What have you bought into; what will it cost to buy you out?

'Since its inception, the internet has provided new ways for people all over the world to exercise the rights of free speech, freedom of the press and freedom of assembly. These rights are not simply the benefits of a free society--they are the very means of preserving that society's freedom. The recent increase in government interference with these freedoms coincides with the failure of the corporate media to fulfill their vital role in checking the abuse of authority. Censorship and journalistic abdication have left citizens unaware and unable to hold their governments accountable. I PAID A BRIBE -- Reporting a bribe just got easier...
january 2011 by adamcrowe
'IpaidABribe.com is Janaagraha’s unique initiative to tackle corruption by harnessing the collective energy of citizens. You can report on the nature, number, pattern, types, location, frequency and values of actual corrupt acts on this website. Your reports will, perhaps for the first time, provide a snapshot of bribes occurring across your city. We will use them to argue for improving governance systems and procedures, tightening law enforcement and regulation and thereby reduce the scope for corruption in obtaining services from the government. We invite you to register any recent or old bribes you have paid. Please tell us if you resisted a demand for a bribe, or did not have to pay a bribe, because of a new procedure or an honest official who helped you. We do not ask for your name or phone details, so feel free to report on the formats provided.'

Cryptome -- Six Anti-Theses on WikiLeaks by Members of the Faculty of the College of Ontopoetic Machines
december 2010 by adamcrowe
'The actions of Anonymous on the websites of Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, and others are in a lineage with the FloodNet by the Electronic Disturbance Theater. While many mainstream media sources see these as "attacks", others, such as the editors of The Guardian, realize them to be "non-violent action or civil disobedience". We do not want to discount how easy it is for the media and authorities to misconstrue these actions as illegal denial of service attacks, as a 16-year old Dutch teenager is finding out right now... ...we are seeing a certain maturation of this technique as acceptable to others outside of the net.art community. Orderly discussion under the control of a leader was not the norm, as individuals simultaneously put forth their own suggestions to have them edited into or out of existence. ...they appeared to be "seasoned political activists", not simply "script-kiddies" as they are described by both the mainstream media and other hacker organizations such as 2600.'

FT.com -- Anonymous cyberwarriors stun experts
december 2010 by adamcrowe
'Few expected the most prominent assaults against large companies to come from a scattered group of anarchists and idealists with no identifiable leader, membership or nationality. Anonymous operates with what to outsiders can look like chaotic abandon. What some would see as infighting, Anons see as a decentralised approach that keeps them fleet of foot. “Having no command structure in Anonymous, we are not vulnerable to having that command structure taken down,” one said. “If someone starts trying to be a ringleader, everyone tells them to shut up. If you jump behind a leader and that leader is taken down, the entire movement is vulnerable.” -- “The internet is something sacred – don’t screw with it, leave it alone,” he said. “If [authorities] are willing to gun down WikiLeaks in broad daylight, they will come down on you as well. If you join us, you have a voice . . . Nobody is going to stop Anonymous unless you pull the plug on the internet.”'

december 2010 by adamcrowe
'To improve the quality of the reports, we have chosen to introduce a concept of 'crowd-journalism' as a subform of crowdsourcing. -- This is Operation Leakspin. We believe that all the information provided by the leaked cables should be out in the open for the public to read, discuss, and most of all, understand. We will use as much manpower as possible to make the information found in the cables available to the public. We will speed up the process of uncovering, we will release facts that the media didn’t speak about, and we will summarize the diplomatic leaks into chunks that everybody can understand. The war against censorship should be fought, not only by attacking businesses facilitating it but by actively releasing all the information that can be released, to all the people it can be released to. We are against censorship, and this is how we prove it. This is what Operation Leakspin is about.'

The Daily Bell -- CyberJustice Versus Monopoly Justice
december 2010 by adamcrowe
'Dominant Social Theme: These hackers are simply irresponsible. -- Free-Market Analysis: All of a sudden, as a result of Julian Assange's imprisonment, a dominant theme that we never expected to be challenged so soon is front and center. The idea of state monopoly justice has suddenly come under fire by a group of young hackers that are questioning how the state defines criminality. ...we believe that we are witnessing, therefore, yet another important turning point in the evolution of Internet technology. A meme (state monopoly justice), one we did not imagine would be much questioned for years to come, is right in the middle of the current news cycle and larger news conversation. Whether the it is controlled or not is almost beside-the-point. Larger issues are now on the table. Guardian -- Want JP Morgan to crash? Buy silver by Max Keiser
december 2010 by adamcrowe
'Here's how the campaign works: wealth tied to a fiat currency is easily overwhelmed by wealth tied to silver and gold. And the world is waking up to the fact that they have the ability, without government assistance or other interference, to create a new precious metals-based backed currency system by simply converting their fiat paper into real money. This campaign has 100% chance of working; it falls into the category of a self-fulfilling prophecy. As more individuals buy silver and gold, all attempts to replenish the system with more paper money will only cause the purchasing power of the silver and gold to increase – thus prompting more people to buy more. Any attempts to bail out JP Morgan would have the same effect. If the US Fed was to flood the system with bailout money for JP Morgan to cover their silver short position more inflation will ensue and the price of silver and gold will rise more, triggering more purchases. A virtuous circle is born.'

zero hedge -- December 7 Is The Unofficial Pan-European Bank Mutiny Day

'Since virtually all actions in 2010 by the global central banking cartel have been geared toward stabilizing the European banking system which continues to wobble on the edge of a complete systemic collapse, perhaps the marginal withdrawal of a few billion in deposits could be just the straw that forces a reset first in Europe, and shortly thereafter in the rest of the globalized developed world. ...in just 24 hours 1,500 readers have pledge their support to the action's various Facebook support sites, and another 48,000 are on the waitlist. We hope that more alternative media (the mainstream will unlikely support such a radical venture) catches on, and more Europeans realize they have all to gain and little to lose from forcing the balance of power to shift away from the banks, and into the hands of the people. ...below are the various facebook support pages: Italy, France, Germany, Holland, Great Britain, Greece'

The New Yorker -- Twitter, Facebook, and social activism
september 2010 by adamcrowe
'As the historian Robert Darnton has written, “The marvels of communication technology in the present have produced a false consciousness about the past—even a sense that communication has no history, or had nothing of importance to consider before the days of television and the Internet.” But there is something else at work here, in the outsized enthusiasm for social media. Fifty years after one of the most extraordinary episodes of social upheaval in American history, we seem to have forgotten what activism is. The platforms of social media are built around weak ties. ...weak ties seldom lead to high-risk activism. [Social media activism] doesn’t require that you confront socially entrenched norms and practices. In fact, it’s the kind of commitment that will bring only social acknowledgment and praise. Social networks are effective at increasing participation—by lessening the level of motivation that participation requires. There are many things that networks don’t do well.'

Wired -- 4chan cyber-protest takes down RIAA and MPAA
september 2010 by adamcrowe
'Hundreds of thousands of 4chan users and sympathisers from other online communities joined forces to direct massive amounts of traffic to the target sites using a bit of software called the Low-Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC). LOIC offers a simple way of flooding a server with data, and when used by hundreds of users at the same time, it's almost impossible to guard against, as the attacks are massively distributed. It seems that the original target for the assault was an Indian anti-piracy company called AiPlex Software, which had recently admitted to using DDoS tactics to take down filesharing websites, including the Pirate Bay. Panda Security's blog declared the action "the future of cyber protests", and filesharing blog Torrentfreak agreed, saying: "No lawyer, no injunction and no police force can stop these kind of attacks from happening and those carrying them out love the sense of power, the sense of payback they provide."'

july 2010 by adamcrowe
'Any experienced teacher knows that if you leave a class to discuss issues without any support, they’re at significant risk of accepting trendy stereotypes or allowing inaccuracies to go unchallenged. Sadly, I saw a fair share of this in EVOKE discussions. It could also be argued that the EVOKE story was simply a mechanism designed to encourage initial discussion and later activism—a prod to social networking and action, rather than educational content in itself. This, I think, is a much more substantive response to my concerns. After all, the website is built around the idea of participation and discussion. It also repeatedly emphasizes the “ten powers” needed to change the world—collaboration, courage, creativity, entrepreneurship, local insight, knowledge sharing, resourcefulness, spark, sustainability, and vision—all of which are obviously good things. However, I think they’ve underestimated the extent to which students can absorb the wrong lessons...' -- Points or it didn't happen

Global Guerrillas -- More Thoughts on Coercing Organizational Hierarchies
june 2010 by adamcrowe
'Objective: connect decision making within corporate hierarchies with personal consequence. Shame (public pressure) and guilt (traditional morality) are useless as tools for regulating behavior within the modern context. A market-based morality dominates in the commercial sector: if you make money doing something, it is good to do. Within non-commercial organizations the vulnerability is more often the concept of a career. Career advancement and continuity dominates all thinking. Methods of correction: Taint the career. Destroy the value derived from financial rewards. The most senior decision maker isn't likely the best target. Target those nearby since the risk/reward ratio is more favorable to successful coercion.'

'...[pierce] the organizational and societal veil of anonymity for these individuals by turning them into systempunkts (vulnerable nodes within the targeted organization's network that would cause the most damage if disrupted). Early work on this type of protest can be seen in the work of 4Chan's Anonymous and China's human flesh search engine. Both of these open source movements have shown to be surprisingly powerful at targeting single individuals (and poor at disrupting organizations). By using thousands of contributers, they are able to gather intelligence information on an individual: #Stalking and harassment #Identity theft #Denial of communication ...to really zoom the effort and turn it into a coercive tool, one modification should be made. It should operate as an online game: #Experience points #Quests #Competition -- Think in terms of this game running as a darknet (not visible to anyone but invited players and only those that have deeply enmeshed themselves in the game).'

The Irish Times -- The revolution was not tweeted
march 2010 by adamcrowe
'The Iranian Twitter Revolution meme is thoroughly debunked in Cloud Culture ...a third of Iranians have internet access and the number of Twitter users in the country during last June’s unrest amounted to just 0.082 per cent of the population. “It’s clear that its influence in co-ordinating a serious challenge to a powerfully entrenched regime was wildly overstated,” the report notes. The idea that Iran was undergoing a Twitter Revolution incorrectly characterised and even trivialised what happened last summer, says Parvin Ardalan, a leading Iranian women’s rights activist who attended the protests. “It was much deeper and wider than that. It involved people from every level of society,” she argues, adding that the focus on Twitter, Facebook and other social media helped bolster the Iranian regime’s claims that the protests were part of a western conspiracy to destabilise the country.'

The reality is she will soon be obsolete and voted out of office. Such arrogance is not tolerated anywhere. Perhaps the best thing to do is default and suffer the consequences. Even if it is not the best thing to do, that is what 93% of Icelandic voters want to do, so that is what Iceland should do. 'Latvian officials struggled Wednesday to come to grips with an enigmatic group, People's Army of the Fourth Awakening, that stole millions of classified tax documents from government computers in a purported effort to expose waste and graft in Europe's weakest economy. The massive data theft from the tax authority's computer system has raised concerns about cybersecurity in the Baltic country. It has also embarrassed politicians and other public officials whose income and wealth — often many times the national average — are being exposed to the public at a time when Latvia is undergoing painful budget cutbacks to rebound from a severe recession.' -- GRAET JUSTICE

'A phenomenon of great importance will not necessarily receive the attention it merits, and thus we may conclude that there is perhaps something going on this very instant to which we ought to be paying attention if we care to know what the future holds for us, in which case we should take a moment to examine what is novel today for signs that it may prove common tomorrow. -- Having taken a long interest in the subculture from which Anonymous is derived and the new communicative structures that make it possible, I am now certain that this phenomenon is among the most important and under-reported social developments to have occurred in decades, and that the development in question promises to threaten the institution of the nation-state and perhaps even someday replace it as the world’s most fundamental and relevant method of human organization.'

february 2010 by adamcrowe
'In A.D. 2010, war was beginning and on February 10th, Anonymous unleashed a massive Blitzkrieg on Australian government websites in a Shock and Awe commando raid dubbed Operation Titstorm. This marked the opening salvo of a war that had been brewing since March, 2009 when Wikileaks published an Xbox hueg list of dox on websites that The Final Boss of Australia and his sidekick -Communications Minister Stephen Conroy- had decided were too hot for Ausfags to handle without leading to the ruination of the nation and that were to be permab& from the country's delicate Internets tubes by the biggest set of dog curtains this side of The Great Firewall of China. -- ...[after] mocking Anon on national TV, the ceasefire was done for and Anon picked up Conroy's thrown gauntlet and announced that hostilities would resume and that this time, they weren't fucking around. -- "The Australian government will learn that one does not mess with our porn." —Anon'

Wikipedia -- Assurance contract
january 2010 by adamcrowe
'The free rider problem is that there may be actions that would benefit a large group of people, but once the action is taken, there is no way to exclude those who did not pay for the action from the benefits. -- Assurance contracts operate as follows: In a binding way, members of a group pledge to contribute to action A if a total contribution level is reached (often a monetary threshold, or a quorum of N members making the same pledge). If the threshold level is met (perhaps by a certain expiration date), the action is taken, and the public good is provided; otherwise, the parties are not bound to carry through the action and any monetary contributions are refunded. The treatment of excess contributions varies: they may be lost, rebated proportionally to the contributors, or used to provide more of the public good.'

Rory Sutherland's Blog -- An entirely new role for brands in social media
january 2010 by adamcrowe
'...the real promise of collective action will only be realised when there's money involved as well as time. When flashmobs become cashmobs... use the internet to enable large groups of people to get together and collectively microfund public goods. It seems to me that one possible role for brands would be to enable this collective action to take place. They may need to create a few financial mechanisms first - such as a credit card system where you would not be charged for your pledge until the required number of pledges had been reached. But, thanks to work on game theory by the economist Alex Tabarrok, there is another role which brand-owners can play in enabling collective action. That is to play the role of the entrepreneur in a Dominant Assurance Contract. Unless you are a keen anarcho-capitalist, you may not have heard of the Dominant Assurance Contract, but it is a vitally useful concept if brands are to find an effective role as magnets for collective action.'

'Time and again in recent decades, we savers have been punished in our efforts to provide for the future. Despite the clear economic and social benefits of a thriving savings culture, successive governments have obstructed, neglected, and at times directly attacked the interests of responsible savers. The UK faces an ever-worsening savings crisis. The spending and borrowing binge that led to the collapse of UK banking has inevitably hit prudent savers hardest. At the same time the Government has championed public and individual spending as our only way out of recession, flatly ignoring the plight of responsible savers in their policy responses. '...the administrator of the website was hired by Fox news to read “tweets” during their made for internet program “Judge Talk for Freedom”. This was a very cheap and effective way of silencing whatever intelligent opposition remained at the site. By promoting the visible leader of the site to a position within the corrupt news organization the news organization achieved a quick and easy coup de etat. Perhaps the website was already finished, but the notion that free speech was a likelihood after that move is a silly notion. The reason isn’t because Fox had sudden jurisdiction over the site. The reason is because half of the contributors succumbed to the cheap bait that they might too develop a career as government TV commentators if they played their cards right. Even if there was only an outside chance of landing a gig as a libertarian, media-savvy commentator on Rupert’s stage why ruin it by biting the hand that might potentially feed you?'

The key to who is in your circle is whom do you trust. There are four fundamental principles of a sound, healthy economy: #1. Sound currency #2. Transparency of shared, i.e., public, money and privacy of individual money #3. Equity financing instead of debt. Debt equals war and equity equals peace #4. Vote with your money. That's the inherent danger of immediate action/reaction/gratification as opposed to taking the time to think things through – "Boring, hard work," as Nick Cohen puts it. (As a #moralmaze tweeter said, links to in-depth resources provide the best alibi for "shallow" twitterhappy tweetstormers.) Nick Cohen: "There's a lot of utopianism. It's very shallow and very transient. A lot of it is apathetic. It's people affirming themselves." -- RE #moralmaze. It's not surprising to see tweeters so overly keen to defend any and every perceived threat to twitter, though it's not like its going away—calm down. The Observer -- Beware the instant online anger of the HobNob mob
november 2009 by adamcrowe
'There have always been people who have found reasons to take offence. A generation ago, protest was hard work. Now Facebook groups and trending topics on Twitter can, if they ignite, produce mass protests from nowhere. -- The ease of net communication explains why so much abuse appears in comments boxes. But it also undermines the authenticity of many mass protests. The targets feel as if they are on the receiving end of genuine popular feeling, when typically the anger directed against them is shallow and transient. -- A mob fighting a good cause is still a mob. To fight back, you need to remember that although the internet age is hugely expanding the number of complaints, the old rules still apply. Whether you are the owner of a tiny blog or the editor of a national newspaper, if someone points out an incorrect fact, you correct it; if someone challenges an argument, you argue back; and if someone says that you must think what they think, you ignore them.'

Spiked -- I am offended, therefore I am
november 2009 by adamcrowe
'...there was something gratuitous about what Brendan O’Neill described as the liberal cause-hunter’s ‘two-minute’ hate. All the commentaries, the blogs, the tweets – all seemed a little too desperate to voice their disapproval, to reveal how disgusted they were. It was a spectacle of feelings, a seething mass of self-affirming emotional incontinence, a carnival of first-person pronouns and expressions of hurt and proxy offence. I feel, therefore I am. -- ...important for the spleen-venters was the act of claiming the moral high-ground as offended, as hurt, as a determined victim of something that they no doubt searched out on the web. This act of searching out offence and proclaiming the depth of one’s feelings from online rooftops threatens free speech. ...the danger of such a vast explosion of offence-taking is that it inhibits, creating a ‘you-can’t-say-that’ culture in which one is scared to speak one’s mind, whether its contents are moronic or not.' -- THE THOUGHTPOLICE IS YOU

Moreover, throughout history we have been divided into groups on the basis of physical, cultural, religious, or whatever other easily recognizable distinctions psychopaths can point out to us, while our real enemy has remained masked. There are deviants who become psychologists or psychiatrists and who try to rewrite psychology from the viewpoint of the pathological! -- As long as there is some idea of compromise, the people of conscience will always lose. These psychological deviants have to be removed from any position of power over people of conscience, period. As the application was constructed, we found that the anonymous nature of the communications provided many new possibilities and challenges. We realized that we could solve many of these problems by charging something—even a tiny amount—for each action. This charge ends up providing an economic disincentive for mass-marketers. It is a real question how a country can stop corruption once corruption reaches its legislature, since the legislature is the place where we would expect reform legislation to be enacted. I believe this is one of the reasons why the poorest countries of the world have remained poor for centuries. As we have seen here in the U.S., once you lose control of your legislature, accomplishing real reform is a much bigger problem. Prosecuting attorneys are not going to be much help, judges and the court system have their hands tied by corrupt legislation, and well-meaning presidents face ostracism inside the Beltway if they openly oppose Congress, lobbyists and corporate special interests. I am starting an effort to organize Americans who are angry with the power of corporate special interests to take back their country by putting pressure not on the corrupt Congress, but on the source of their funding: our biggest banks and corporations.'

'... two new qualities of leadership: #The first is the ability to distribute a leader's influence to as many followers within a given time. #The second is the ability to be sufficiently persuasive to change and hold the allegiance of followers who they can influence. When these factors come into play, the balance of power depends on the distribution of leaders. ...the key to seizing power, or at least gaining a significant foothold, is the effective distribution of a small number of leaders within a larger group. "A better distribution pattern has larger influential region and greater clustering factor, which can equip the leaders with the capability of influencing more followers in a given period and strengthening the persuasion power on the followers as well."' -- In the linked paper: '...the mechanism underlying such an apparent “following the minority” in the whole group is due to the scheme of “following the majority” locally.'

Fast Company -- The Dark Side of Twittering a Revolution
june 2009 by adamcrowe
'Consider, for a moment, what we're seeing happening in Iran: mass-action coordinated, at least in part, through Twitter; traditional media in Iran having lost any legitimacy for the angry populace, alternative media—like Twitter—increasingly becoming the sole source of information; and a growing sense of persecution and crisis, abetted by the limited streams of rumor-heavy news. -- Frank Chalk noted five circumstances that would allow the maximum intensity of a media-driven response to a crisis: #1. the introduction of a new medium of communication; #2. the use of a completely new style of communication; #3. the wide-spread perception that a crisis exists; #4. a public with little knowledge of the situation from other sources of information, and #5. a deep-seated habit of obeying authority among the target audience. -- All of these circumstances pertain to the promulgation of the genocide in Rwanda and many of them are found in other cases of genocide and genocidal killings, as well.'

This format of communication is inherently noisy and chaotic. However, the unprecedented openness made possible by such boards has nurtured the appearance of a unique and persistent culture. We are a collection of individuals united by ideas. You likely know Anonymous, although you don't know exactly who we are. We are your brothers and sisters, your parents and children, your superiors and your underlings. We are the concerned citizens standing next to you. Anonymous is everywhere, yet nowhere. Our strength lies in our numbers. Our will as a whole is the combined will of individuals. Our greatest advantage is a knowledge of the fundamentals we share as human beings. If you discover a genuine source, please don’t publicise their name or location on a website. These bloggers are in REAL danger. Spread the word discretely through your own networks but don’t signpost them to the security forces. People are dying there, for real, please keep that in mind. -- #7. Do spread the (legitimate) word, it works! When the bloggers asked for twitter maintenance to be postponed using the #nomaintenance tag, it had the desired effect. As long as we spread good information, provide moral support to the protesters, and take our lead from the legitimate bloggers, we can make a constructive contribution."
