Get Mental Notes
"In the midst of a busy project it's all too easy to forget the nuances that distinguish great products. Mental Notes brings together 50 insights from psychology into an easy reference and brainstorming tool. Each card describes one insight into human behavior and suggests ways to apply this to the design of Web sites, Web apps, and software applications."

Kissing Ann Arbor’s Ass While Dissing The Rest Of The State « arborblahg
"I would cut AnnArbor.com some slack if they had made the case for our state as a whole. But instead they indulged in the same old ”Michigan blows but Ann Arbor is great” garbage this town has been gagging up for decades.

No wonder the rest of the state can’t stand us. Ann Arbor is like that greasy dweeb in college who’d show up at parties and smugly explain how all my favorite bands and movies sucked.

God, I hated that guy."

The Infomercantile: IDEA, 1940s
"When producing a movie, everything stems back to this box: IDEA. In the 1940s, these were the sources of ideas: "Play," "Short Story or Novel," "Newspaper Story or Current Event," "Original Story," "Magazine Article," or "Historical Incident." Way off on the left, however, there's one additional source that's not shown above: "Vice President in Charge of Production." If you want something unoriginal done that isn't in print or in the history books, go talk to the VP, he'll get it done. On another note: this particular flowchart is one of the few places the words "Restaurants," "Mimeograph," "Arsenal," "Publicity," and "Bits & Extras" fit together so well. From the 20th Century Fox flowcharts collection."

Rands In Repose: Your People
"When I’m talking about Your People, I am not thinking of your best friend. Sure, your best friend might be Your People, but I’m talking about a larger population who aren’t necessarily your friends and who isn’t your family. These are a strange lot of people you’ve discovered in a motley array of places because you were searching for them."

Ike: The Silent Storm | CommonDreams.org
"It's been three weeks and it will certainly be many more before this is over. The Texas Guard is rolling out. Clean up crews and tow trucks rattle down the streets. Chainsaws replace generators. But still, the silence is deafening. Seriously deafening. As if no one is paying any attention at all."

My hesitation is the underlying assumption that a "book" is equivalent to a "series of words". Nice redistribution system; hard to reassemble in the end, though.
