Comparing Detroit To Other Cities? Look At The Map! | DetroitUnspun - The Detroit Regional News Hub
august 2010 by Vaguery
"One of the most common discussion points we see around Detroit is comparing it to other cities. Although we believe Detroit stands on its own, it’s natural to try to relate our situation with others.
However, many comparisons are drawn to cities like San Francisco, New York, and Boston – and then we got to thinking."

MapTiler - Map Tile Cutter. Overlay Generator for Google Maps, Google Earth (KML SuperOverlay).
march 2010 by Vaguery
"MapTiler is graphical application for online map publishing. Your map can create overlay of standard maps like Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, Microsoft VirtualEarth or OpenStreetMap and can be also visualized in 3D form by Google Earth. Only thing you have to do for publishing the map is to upload the automatically generated directory with tiles into your webserver."

Tile Drawer
october 2009 by Vaguery
"OpenStreetMap is a wiki-style map of the world that anyone can edit. You can get the raw data for roads around the world, set up a server, design a new map style, and have your own personal online interactive maps. In the past, this has been difficult owing to the large volume of data required and the hassles of system administration. Tile Drawer is designed to make this process easy with a custom-configured Amazon EC2 machine image (AMI) that gets you up and running with just two pieces of information: a custom stylesheet that you choose, and the geographical location of a part of the world you'd like rendered."
