Book - Scalable and Modular Architecture for CSS
SMACSS (pronounced “smacks”) is more style guide than rigid framework. There is no library within here for you to download or install. SMACSS is a way to examine your design process and as a way to fit those rigid frameworks into a flexible thought process. It is an attempt to document a consistent approach to site development when using CSS. And really, who isn’t building a site with CSS these days?! Feel free to take this in its entirety or use only the parts that work best for you. Or don’t use it at all. I understand that this won’t be everybody’s cup of tea. When it comes to web development, the answer to most questions is “it depends”.

Gerd Arntz Web Archive
The work of Gerd Arntz (1900-1988) is of great importance to the world of visual communication. His signs are drawn with preciseness and a wonderful feeling for dimensions. Ed Annink, Ontwerpwerk, repositioned two of them and made them available in the consumer market as doormats. Doing so the legacy of Arntz became visible for a wider audience.

ImageOptim – a PNG/JPEG/GIF optimizer for Mac OS X
ImageOptim optimizes images — so they take up less disk space and load faster — by finding best compression parameters and by removing unnecessary comments and color profiles. It handles PNG, JPEG and GIF animations.

ImageOptim seamlessly integrates various optimisation tools: PNGOUT, AdvPNG, Pngcrush, extended OptiPNG, JpegOptim, jpegrescan, jpegtran, and Gifsicle.

It's excellent for publishing images on the web (easily shrinks images “Saved for Web” in Photoshop) and also useful for making Mac and iPhone/iPad applications smaller (see Xcode warning).

Four Random Files - Experimental Jetset
First, a short bit about ourselves. We are Experimental Jetset, a small, independent graphic design studio based in Amsterdam, consisting of three persons: Marieke Stolk, Danny van den Dungen and Erwin Brinkers. We have been collaborating as Experimental Jetset since we graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (in 1997, 1997 and 1998 respectively), and in our work we focus mostly on printed matter.
We often describe graphic design as "turning language into objects". With this website, we are in fact doing the opposite: we are trying to turn objects into language. Or better said, we are looking at the objects we have produced during the last ten years, and we try to describe them.

An earlier version of this website was launched in the beginning of 2005. Rereading the foreword we wrote then (see 'Preface to the 2005 launch', shown below), we noticed that, in that text, we went to great lengths to make very clear that this website would not be an ordinary portfolio site. Now, almost four years later, we still don't see this place as a typical portfolio site. The word 'portfolio' suggests a selection of work that is easy-to-carry, simple to digest, smoothly streamlined. Our website is far from that. It is a monster of an archive, in which we neurotically try to describe everything, not only our greatest hits, but also our biggest failures. In that sense, it will be never finished, although it certainly is our goal to come as close as possible.
