Dropbox Just Integrated with Facebook
8 weeks ago by EchoNovember1
Dropbox has long been king of sharing and storing files in the cloud, likely because of its simplicity of design. Now, the storage giant is making it easier than ever to share folders with friends, thanks to its new integration with Facebook.
To get started visit this page and connect your Facebook account. Then, search for and select a friend, and they’ll automatically be invited.
Integrating with Facebook definitely ups the ease of use for many users, as it can be a hassle to manually copy and paste in emails. Perhaps more importantly though, is the fact that Dropbox will likely reach an even larger audience due to this integration.

Those Millions on Facebook? Some May Not Actually Visit - NYTimes.com
february 2012 by EchoNovember1
If they click a ‘like’ button but do not go to Facebook that day, they cannot be marketed to, they do not see any advertising, they cannot be sold any goods or services. All they did was take advantage of FB’s extensive infrastructure to tell their FB friends (who may or may not see what they did) that they liked something online. Period.

Which types of content do fans love to share?
january 2012 by EchoNovember1
What you should try:
Content about them. If there’s one thing people love to talk about — online or off — it’s themselves. Try initiatives such as group projects, featuring customers’ work, or posting photos or interviews of your fans.
Exclusive content. If everyone knows it, there’s no reason to talk about it. But content that nobody has seen yet — new products, sneak previews or insider news — has natural viral potential. We love being the first to tell our friends about this stuff.
Fun stuff. It’s hard to talk about serious business all of the time. That’s the reason goofy, off-topic and funny content can be such a powerful word-of-mouth tool. Try simple stuff such as photos that show employees’ personality, hiding a few Easter eggs in your products, celebrating an obscure holiday or doing a wacky stunt.

Jeff Jarvis - Google+ - Here is how European Commission VP Viviane Reding defines…
january 2012 by EchoNovember1
Personal data is any information relating to an individual, whether it relates to his or her private, professional or public life. It can be anything from a name, a photo, an email address, bank details, posts on social networking websites, medical information, or a computer IP address. The EU’s Charter of Fundamental Rights says that everyone has the right to personal data protection in all aspects of life: at home, at work, whilst shopping, when receiving medical treatment, at a police station or on the Internet

The Uphill Battle Of Social Event Sharing: A Post-Mortem for Plancast | TechCrunch
january 2012 by EchoNovember1
Most social networks feed primarily on vanity, in that they allow people to share and tailor online content that makes them look good. They can help people communicate to others that they’ve attended impressive schools, built amazing careers, attended cool parties, dated attractive people, thought deep thoughts, or reared cute kids. The top-level goal for most people is to convince others they are the individuals they want to be, whether that includes being happy, attractive, smart, fun or anything else.
This vanity compels folks to share content about themselves (or things they’ve encountered) most strongly when there’s an audience ready and able to generate validating feedback. When you post a clever photo on Instagram, you’re telling the world “I’m creative!” and sharing evidence to boot. Those who follow you validate that expression by liking the photo and commenting positively about it. The psychological rush of first posting the photo and then receiving positive feedback drives you to post more photos in the hope of subsequent highs.
