Video of Street Fighting in Beirut - NYTimes.com
The battle began after members of the Future Movement, the party of former Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, attacked the offices of the Arab Movement Party, which backs Mr. Assad. The affiliation of the fighters shown in the video images was not immediately clear.

The burst of violence stoked fears in the capital that the bloody and intractable 15-month conflict in Syria was spreading into the heart of Lebanon. While deadly clashes have previously erupted in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, the overnight fighting was the worst yet in Beirut to stem from the Syrian conflict.

The clashes in Beirut appeared to have been sparked by events in the north, after two anti-Syrian Sunni Muslim clerics died at a checkpoint near Tripoli after an altercation with a soldier at the checkpoint that resulted in gunfire by the soldier. After the killings, protests erupted before the violent clashes.

Bambuser: We mourn the loss of a very brave Syrian journalist
We mourn the loss of a very brave Syrian journalist
This morning LIVE footage by one citizen journalist, Rami Ahmad Alsayeed -  also known as one of the people behind the broadcaster Syriapioneer on Bambuser, was aired all over the world by BBC World, SkyNews, Al Jazeera and many more. All showed live footage from the roof where Rami and his friends have put their camera, as they've done many times documenting the heavy shelling from the Assad Forces hovering over BabaAmr in Homs, Syria. Rami Ahmad Alsayeed has for months been one of the bravest and forefront fighters in getting the world's attention on what’s going on in Homs, Syria. This afternoon, cameraman and journalist Rami Ahmad Alsayeed did his last broadcast – he and three of his friends were soon after this killed by the Assad armed forces on the streets of BabaAmr.

SXSW 2011: How the BBC gets round censorship using social media | Technology | guardian.co.uk
The BBC received around eight videos a minute from the streets of Iran during the 2009 uprising. But it was far from a "Twitter revolution", Dolatshahi said.<br />
<br />
"The reality was that people in Iran weren't using Twitter. It was people outside of Iran. We were just the receivers of this information.<br />
<br />
"It was interesting after the election because people were beginning to hear about YouTube and videos. Some would take it from YouTube and share via Bluetooth on their cell phones. I can confidently say that since the election protests, and when TV channels showed YouTube, more people have started using those communication technologies."<br />
<br />
Raymond Li, the head of BBC China, says he circumvents the communist state's censors by publishing news on Twitter-equivalent sites, where regulation is less strict.<br />
<br />
"Foreign media like us have been persistently blocked by China for a long time. Instead people are using proxy software or social media sites to come to us," Li said.

BBC - The Editors: The difficulty of reporting from inside Libya
The BBC and other news organisations are relying on those on the ground to tell us what's happening. Their phone accounts - often accompanied by the sound or gunfire and mortars - are vivid. However, inevitably, it means we cannot independently verify the accounts coming out of Libya. That's why we don't present such accounts as "fact" - they are "claims" or "allegations".<br />
<br />
Similarly, the flow of video - the so-called "user-generated-content" - has dwindled to a trickle as the authorities have periodically turned off the Internet. That means we have an additional responsibility - to be clear with our audiences not just what little we do know, but perhaps more significantly, what we don't.

Interesting Times: Truth, but Not the Whole Truth : The New Yorker
These pieces of missing information are not just inherent limitations in video. The producers themselves have chosen not to provide them. There appears to be a purpose to the omissions, which is underlined by the Orwell quote at the start, the prefatory explanation, the quotes and dedication at the end, even the way the helicopter crew’s cruel remarks are edited in a few places for effect. Although the producers identify the camera of the Reuters journalist who, along with his assistant, will be killed by Apache cannon fire, they don’t point to the AK-47 or the RPG launcher carried by other men with whom the journalists are walking in a group. Stripped of much context and weighted with commentary, this video is both an important document of the war, courageously leaked after the military had steadily refused to release it, and, in its way, a propaganda film. (Wikileaks also released an unadorned, unedited, thirty-eight-minute version on a Web site called Collateral Murder.)
