The Independent Photo Book
The Independent Photo Book is a blog begun as of this year, by Jorg Colberg and the Mrs Deane crew. It accepts submissions of photo books that are self-published and not available on Amazon, Blurb or any other mainstream vendor. There is a single picture, often of the cover, and a paragraph of descriptive text and a link to the website for purchase. It functions like a catalog as a way to see what people are doing, what kinds of projects people are doing. Good for inspiration.

The Bookliberator project
"BookLiberator is a set of free software and hardware to digitize books: it lets you photograph all the pages in a book without harming the book. The resulting images can be processed with free, open source software to make user-friendly files in a variety of formats." Imagine a plexilglass box, two cameras, and a stand.

DIY Book Scanners Turn Your Books Into Bytes | Gadget Lab | Wired.com
"So over three days, and for about $300, he lashed together two lights, two Canon Powershot A590 cameras, a few pieces of acrylic and some chunks of wood to create a book scanner that’s fast enough to scan a 400-page book in about 20 minutes. To use it, he simply loads in a book and presses a button, then turns the page and presses the button again. Each press of the button captures two pages, and when he’s done, software on Reetz’s computer converts the book into a PDF file."
