WARNING for neglect of a child and homophobia

Sometimes, you find things in the most unlikely of places.

This could be an essay considering all the ideas I took and adapted from everything from Arthurian romances to Monochrome Factor. I have no guilt about this as an English student friend of mine once told me there are no new stories, only re-written old ones. The internet was my researchy-friend. Many things are written to [info]cienna's specification. I'm sure Bad Son had input somewhere. The title is shamelessly pilfered from an Old English poem called, somewhat appropriately, "The Wanderer". I shall not go into the meaning too much, but those who know of Japanese-y things will appreciate the thematic parallels between Old English literature and the on-going obsession of Japanese culture with transience. Sakura blah blah blah.

Arthur knows that whatever the future holds, Merlin will be there by his side, helping him through it.

Arthur is the Royal Arbiter for Suitable Suitors' Disputes. He (and his trusty companion, the golden-dragon-tasselled hat) alone can determine who is fit to woo royal servants and other assorted courtiers in Uther's court.

Gender switch, crack, true love, duels of honour and someone who really, *really* doesn't want to wear a dress.

He was supposed to protect his people - starting with his servants - and if Merlin believed he couldn't come to Arthur with this then of what purpose was Arthur?

Arthur does not expect to be enchanted by her son Merlin, the posthumous son of Balinor.

Bonus points for:
1. Extracts of weird lyrics heavily based on slash dragon quotes. 2. Arthur being a total metalhead despite looking his usual posh self.
3. Gaius being "Kilgharrah's" roadie back in the eighties.

At first, Arthur thinks this is some passive aggressive mind game but it turns out Uther is entirely genuine.
This would be a fic full of cute, hilarious shenanigans with a happy ending.

Arthur sometimes wished he understood what was going on in Merlin's head. He just hadn't meant literally.

Arthur can ignore a lot of the strange things about Merlin, but when he sees Merlin with his shirt off one day he CAN'T ignore merlin's scars.

Because, come on, surely Merlin must have some pretty serious ones- from Nimueh's fireball up to when he was poisoned by the Serqet...and why would a servant, Merlin, possibly have such scars.

When Arthur notices the scars on Merlin, he sets off to find out why a servant of all people has such marks and discovers that Merlin might not be all that he seems. From kinkme_merlin prompt
